How do I activate my personal IBAN?

Existing clients can activate their personal IBAN directly from the Blockrise platform. The process takes a few minutes and consists of three short steps. Once completed, euro balances are automatically transferred to the new personal account.

Before you start

Make sure you have the following ready:

  • A valid identity document (passport, ID card, or driver's licence)
  • Your tax identification number (TIN)(LINK)
  • Access to the Blockrise platform on a mobile device (required for identity verification)

Step 1: Start the activation

Navigate to the Euro section under Accounts, or tap the activation banner on the Overview page. An introduction screen explains the benefits of the personal IBAN. Tap "Activate account" to begin.

Step 2: Accept the terms and conditions

Review and accept the bunq Personal Account Terms and Conditions. These are the terms of the bank that holds the personal IBAN. Both checkboxes must be confirmed to proceed.

Step 3: Provide tax information

Select the country of fiscal residence and enter the corresponding tax identification number. This is required under banking regulations.

Step 4: Verify your identity

Complete a short identity verification on your mobile device. Have a valid identity document ready. This is a separate verification required by bunq and does not replace the existing Blockrise KYC process.

In most cases, verification is approved instantly. In rare cases, bunq may require additional review time.

After activation

Once the account is created, all euro balances are automatically transferred from the previous custodial account (Stichting Blockrise 3e Gelden) to the new personal IBAN. This is visible as a "Migration completed" transaction in the Euro account overview.

The personal IBAN is displayed under Accounts, along with a DGS badge confirming that balances are covered by the Dutch Deposit Guarantee Scheme. For more information about the personal IBAN, see [What is my personal IBAN?].
