How do I switch from a seed phrase to Cloud Recovery?

If you hold a 24-word Blockrise Seed, you can add Cloud Recovery afterwards from the Blockrise app. This applies to clients who chose Advanced Setup, and to clients whose wallet was created before Cloud Recovery became available, when a written seed phrase was the standard method. This is not available in the dashboard, so you will need your phone.

Before you start

You need your existing Blockrise Seed, either as a QR code or as the 24 words, because you use it to authorise the change. You also need to be signed in to your cloud account on the device: iCloud on iPhone, Google on Android.

What happens when you switch

A new Blockrise Seed is generated and encrypted on your device, and the encrypted copy is stored in your personal cloud storage. This adds a recovery key to your wallet. Your existing Blockrise Seed stays valid and keeps working, so the 24 words you wrote down remain yours and remain usable. Blockrise Back-up is enabled at the same time. There are no costs for enabling Cloud Recovery or Blockrise Back-up. You can read more in How Cloud Recovery works.

Adding Cloud Recovery

  1. Open the Blockrise app and go to Profile, then Security.
  2. Tap Cloud recovery.
  3. Read the summary and tap Get started.
  4. Review what will happen to your wallet and tap Continue with iCloud. On Android, this button refers to your Google account.
  5. On the Important information screen, read both statements, tick both boxes, and tap Continue.
  6. On the Authorise the change screen, tap Continue.
  7. Confirm with your existing Blockrise Seed. Choose Scan QR code to scan the QR code of your seed, or Enter seed manually to type the 24 words.
  8. Wait while the app saves the encrypted seed to your cloud account and activates recovery. This takes a few seconds.
  9. When you see Cloud recovery activated, tap Continue.

How to check that it worked

Go back to Profile, then Security. Blockrise Back-up now shows as Active, and the Cloud recovery option is no longer listed, because it is already set up.
