How to create a personal Blockrise account

Steps of the onboarding process

Before a personal account can be opened, every client must complete the entire onboarding process. In compliance with Dutch laws and regulations, Blockrise is obliged to verify the identity of clients and the source of their funds during onboarding. The onboarding process consists of:

  1. Registering your account.
  2. Completing the Know Your Customer (KYC) process.
  3. Signing the Blockrise Services Agreement.
  4. Setting up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for extra security.
  5. Generating your Blockrise Seed.

Criteria

To create a personal account with Blockrise, you have to:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Reside in the European Economic Area (EEA).
  • Have a government-issued identification document (passport or ID card).
  • Invest a minimum amount of €20.000,- (or an equivalent amount in crypto).
  • Use an EEA bank account.

Step 1: Registering

In the first step, you will create your account by entering your email address and picking a secure password. Make sure you store your password somewhere safe.

Step 2: Completing the Know Your Customer (KYC) process

Next up, we will need personal details from you. You will need to complete this process before you can use our services. As Blockrise is registered with the Dutch Central Bank, we are obliged by law to verify the identity of our clients and the source of their funds. During the KYC process, we request from you different kinds of personal information to make sure you are who you claim to be.

  • You will need to take a picture of your government-issued identification (ID-card or passport), and a selfie.
  • We will also verify your bank account.

Source of funds

For the verification of your source of funds, we require information about where your crypto or money is coming from. This might include information from your bank account, crypto wallet and/or additional sources of funds. Additionally, we might ask you to provide information about your financial and professional background to verify the origins of your funds.

If necessary, you can pause the verification process to retrieve certain documents and return later to the verification page, where all uploaded information will be saved. After you have filled in all requested information, our compliance team will verify all data and notify you by email if your application has been accepted.

Please note that good preparation can speed up the KYC process. We recommend clients gather relevant documents in advance, such as identification document(s), annual report(s) of bank account(s), annual payslip(s), etc.

Step 3: Signing the Blockrise Services Agreement

When our compliance team has decided to accept your verification, you will receive an email. Next, you will be asked to thoroughly read and sign the Blockrise Services Agreement.

Signing the Agreement happens online and is fully automated, through the website of our partner Scrive. On their website, you can find your own Blockrise Services Agreement. After having read the Agreement, you can sign it with a PIN code, sent to your phone via SMS.

Click on the button at the bottom of the page to receive a PIN code on your phone. By entering the PIN code on the Scrive website, you officially sign the Agreement. After signing, you will be redirected to the login page of Blockrise. A copy of your signed Agreement will be sent to your email.

Step 4: Setting up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

After you have signed the Blockrise Services Agreement, you are required to install 2FA for your Blockrise account. Two-factor authentication (2FA) is an additional layer of security next to your username and password. To make use of Blockrise's services, all clients must install 2FA

Step 5: Generating your Blockrise Seed

For the authorization of all transactions in the Blockrise dashboard, every client generates their own Blockrise Seed. Your Blockrise Seed will be generated locally within your browser. This seed consists of 24 randomly generated words, which function as your signature to authorize transactions in the Blockrise dashboard. This Blockrise Seed is only visible and known to you, Blockrise does not know your Blockrise Seed.

Please note that Blockrise is not able to restore your Blockrise seed so store it somewhere safe.

Some security tips

You can consider the Blockrise Seed as the key to your personal vault, so it is of utmost importance to keep it secure. Follow these tips for extra security:

  • Carefully write down your Blockrise Seed on the two provided recovery sheets.
  • Make sure that nobody but you has access to your Blockrise Seed.
  • Make sure that you do not lose your Blockrise Seed.

Without your Blockrise Seed, you are not authorized to make any transactions. That means you cannot move your funds from your account. Again, Blockrise does not have a backup of your Blockrise Seed. If you lose your Blockrise Seed, you lose access to your stored funds permanently.

Please note that team members at Blockrise would never ask for your Blockrise Seed. If someone, claiming to be working at Blockrise, approaches you and asks for your Blockrise Seed, please notify us immediately.

Bonus tip: Installing the Blockrise App (optional)

The Blockrise App adds an extra security layer to your Blockrise Seed by creating an additional seed in a secured mobile application. When making transactions in the Blockrise dashboard, the Blockrise App provides a more convenient way to sign transactions by scanning a QR code, rather than manually copying your Blockrise Seed.

To download and install the Blockrise App follow the next steps:

  1. Visit your App Store or Play Store to download the Blockrise App.
  2. Open the Blockrise App and log in with your email address, password, and 2FA token.
  3. Read and accept the Terms and Conditions.
  4. Choose a suitable PIN code for the Blockrise App and confirm it.
  5. Optionally enable biometric confirmation (such as fingerprint access control or Face ID).
  6. Optionally give a suitable name to your device.
  7. Fill in your 24-word Blockrise Seed.

You can now use the Blockrise App to sign transactions.
