What is a TIN number?
 A Tax Identification Number (TIN) is a unique number used by tax authorities to identify individuals for tax purposes. As a regulated financial institution, Blockrise is required to collect your TIN to comply with international tax reporting regulations. The name and format of your TIN varies depending on your country of residence. Below you'll find information for the most common countries where Blockrise clients are located.

TIN by Country

Netherlands: Burgerservicenummer (BSN)

What it is: A 9-digit number assigned to everyone registered in the Netherlands.

Format: 123456789

Where to find it: On your passport, ID card, driver's license, tax correspondence from the Belastingdienst, or in your DigiD account.

Belgium: Numéro de registre national / Rijksregisternummer

What it is: An 11-digit identification number assigned to all Belgian residents.

Format: YY.MM.DD-XXX.XX (starts with your date of birth)

Where to find it: On the back of your Belgian identity card (eID), on tax documents from SPF Finances/FOD Financiën, or on your salary slips.

Luxembourg: Numéro d'identification

What it is: A 13-digit number assigned to all Luxembourg residents for tax and social security purposes.

Format: YYYYMMDDXXXXX (starts with date of birth)

Where to find it: On your social security card, tax documents from the Administration des contributions directes, or on your salary slips.

Germany: Steueridentifikationsnummer

What it is: An 11-digit tax ID number assigned to all German residents for life.

Format: 12 345 678 901

Where to find it: On your tax assessment (Einkommensteuerbescheid), correspondence from the Bundeszentralamt für Steuern, or on your payslips. You can also request it at www.bzst.de.

Note: Don't confuse this with the Steuernummer. The 11 digit Steuer ID is what you need.

France: Numéro fiscal de référence

What it is: A 13-digit tax reference number used to identify taxpayers in France.

Format: 0123456789012

Where to find it: On your tax notice (avis d'imposition), in your personal tax space on impots.gouv.fr, or on correspondence from the Direction générale des Finances publiques.

United Kingdom: National Insurance Number

What it is: A unique identifier used in the UK for tax and national insurance purposes.

Format: AB123456C (2 letters, 6 digits, 1 letter)

Where to find it: On your payslips (P60 or P45), letters from HMRC, or in your personal tax account on gov.uk.

What if I don't have a TIN?
