What is Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)?
Two-factor authentication (2FA) is a security measure that requires you to provide two forms of identification in order to access an account or service. The first factor is usually a password, while the second factor can differ between being a code generated by an app, a text message sent to your phone, or a physical token.
Generally, using an authenticator app is considered more secure than 2FA via text message. Blockrise requires their clients to install a 2FA app, such as Google Authenticator or Authy. When logging in to a Blockrise, clients need to enter three pieces of information:
- Your email address
- Your password
- 2FA token, generated in your 2FA app.
Installing an authenticator app
There are many authenticator apps available for both iPhones and Android phones. You can decide which one you prefer to use with your Blockrise account.
Twilio Authy
A popular authenticator app is Authy. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to set up Blockrise with Twilio Authy. First, install the Authy app on your mobile device. After installation, follow these steps:
- Open the app and click on '+ Add Account' at the bottom of your screen.
- After that, click on 'scan a barcode', after which the camera will activate, and point the camera at the QR code. You could also click on 'Enter code manually' and enter the provided code like that.
- Pick a logo that suits you or Blockrise and give the account a memorable name.
- Afterward, the 2FA for Blockrise will be displayed for 30 seconds. After that, the code will change.
- Print/save the restore codes in case your 2FA device gets lost.
