What is Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)?

What is Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)?

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is a security measure that requires you to verify your identity in two separate steps when logging in. This makes it significantly harder for unauthorized persons to access your account, even if they have access to your email.

Blockrise supports two methods for 2FA: passkeys and authenticator apps. We recommend using a passkey for the strongest level of security.

How logging in to Blockrise works

When logging in to Blockrise, you complete three steps:

  1. Enter your email address.
  2. Enter the verification code sent to your email.
  3. Verify with your passkey or enter a code from your authenticator app.

Passkey (recommended)

A passkey lets you verify your identity using your device's built-in security — such as your fingerprint, Face ID, or screen lock PIN. There is no code to type; you simply confirm on your device.

Passkeys are considered more secure than authenticator apps because they are resistant to phishing and cannot be intercepted or copied. Your passkey is set up when you register your Blockrise account.

If you lose access to the device your passkey is stored on, contact us at support@blockrise.com to have your passkey reset.

Authenticator app
If you are unable to use a passkey, you can use an authenticator app instead. An authenticator app generates a temporary code that refreshes every 30 seconds. Popular options include Google Authenticator, Authy, and Microsoft Authenticator.

  1. Install an authenticator app of your choice on your mobile device.
  2. In Blockrise, navigate to the setup screen where a QR code is displayed.
  3. In your authenticator app, add a new account and scan the QR code. If scanning is not possible, you can enter the provided code manually.
  4. Give the account a recognizable name, such as "Blockrise".
  5. The app will now display a code that refreshes every 30 seconds. Enter the current code to complete setup.
  6. Save or print the restore codes provided. You will need these to recover access if your device is lost.
